Allen Flemming Davis

Allen F. Davis, 95, of Columbus, died Saturday, January 26, 2013,  at Columbus Hospice. He was a resident of The Gardens at Calvary Assisted Living facility, and longtime member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Moon Rd. in Columbus at 2 P.M.Tuesday, January 29, 2013, with interment to follow at Shiloh Marion family cemetery in Buena Vista.  Visitation will be at the church beginning at 1PM before the funeral service. There will also be a visitation held at Watson-Tante Funeral Home in Buena Vista , GA, from 6-8PM on Monday, January 28, 2013.

The son of the late Flem and Lula Harry Davis, he was born in Marion County, Ga. on February 2, 1917. He retired in 1986 from the U.S.Dept. of Agriculture, and  was a U.S.Navy  Veteran of WWII, serving from 1942-1945.He lived in Marion County until 1975, transferring to Augusta, Ga. for the next  11 years  before retiring and moving back to Columbus in 1986. He served as Chairman of the Marion County Board of Education and the Marion County Draft Boards for many years. He loved all sports and was beloved as a coach in baseball and softball. He enjoyed coaching all ages from Little League to middle and high school to adult ladies church league. He also loved farming and raising cattle as a hobby. Besides his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Brady Davis, and his daughter, Carolyn Davis Beck.

He is survived by two sons, Steve Davis and his wife Pam of Columbus, and Terry Davis and his wife, Stacy, of Evans, Ga., a brother, Jerry Davis (Mae) of Buena Vista, grandchildren Marc Miller of Buena Vista, Hilary Davis Smith (Ricky), of Columbus, Spencer Davis (Amy) of Andrews, NC., Erin Davis Wisehart (John) of Newnan, Chaz Davis of Atlanta, Brannen Davis of Athens (UGA) and T.D.Davis of Statesboro (Ga.Sou). He is also survived by nine (9) great grandchildren and by a very special friend, Martha Angle.

Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia, was in charge of these arrangements.
