Brenda Henson Humber

Ms. Brenda Henson Humber, 73, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away at Columbus Specialty Hospital in Columbus, GA on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Buena Vista First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Akin and Rev. David Chapman officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Buena Vista cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 6:00-8:00PM. Serving as active pallbearers will be Brian Moon, Ricky McCorkle, Chip Rankin, Brian Fuller, Tim Holbrook, and Darrell Holbrook.

Ms. Humber was born October 9, 1944, in Sumter County, GA, to Clyde Chester and Beulah Moore Henson. Ms. Humber graduated from Marion County High School and went on to attain her Associates Degree in Business from Georgia Southwestern University. Upon graduation, she worked with the Department of Transportation for one year until she moved back to Buena Vista to work in various places before beginning her career with the Department of Family and Children Services.  Ms. Humber retired after 31 years of service with DFCS with her last 5 years serving as Director of the Chattahoochee County DFCS. She had a passion for music and played the piano and organ in numerous churches from teenage years until just a few years ago, when her health required her to give it up.  She was a member of Buena Vista First United Methodist Church.  Ms. Humber enjoyed playing Bridge with the Buena Vista Bridge Club and always loved watching her boys play baseball.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry W. Henson.

She is survived by two sons, Brad Humber (Wendy) of Buena Vista and Brent Humber (Christy) of Cusseta, one brother, Robert “Bobby” Henson of Columbus, GA, one sister, Patricia Henson of Buena Vista, GA, four grandchildren, Blake Humber, Harrison Humber, Paul Breland (Ashlee) and Ashley Hoy (Logan), one great-grandchild, Camden Breland, Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
