ELLAVILLE, GA --- Ms. Carol Lee Holmberg Barry Alvarez, age 68 of Ellaville died Friday, January 8, 2010. A private memorial service was held Monday, January 11, 2010.
Ms. Alvarez was born October 15, 1941 in Jamaica, New York and was the daughter of Albert T. Holmberg and Olivia Browne Holmberg. In 1961 she married John Edward Barry and had two children, John and Deborah. After John Edward's death, she married Renee Alvarez in 1971. Together they had three daughters, Leticia, Julie and Melissa. After moving to Ellaville in 1979, Carol was employed by Bill's Dollar store until she and her daughters moved to St. Augustine, FL in 1989 for a fresh start. She resided there and raised her daughters until 2004 when, due to health issues, moved back to Ellaville to live with her son, John and daughter-in-law Anne.
Carol was happy in Ellaville, enjoying friends, family and a renewed relationship with her son. She loved animals, especially her cat "Miss Kitty" who she had for fifteen years and her dog Rocco who was special gift from her mother. She also took care of any stray cats that happened to come along. She was determined to see that they had food, water and a safe place to stay.
Carol's hobbies included video games, her favorites being Spiro and Zelda, needlepoint, and talking on the phone to family. She also loved hummingbirds. In recent years in Ellaville, Carol enjoyed good friends and good food, especially the good food. She was MeeMaw, a bright spot in the day with soft hands, a kind heart and a warm smile. She was loved and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include one son, John Albert Barry (Anne) of Ellaville; four daughters, Deborah Walton of Ellaville, Leticia Alvarez of Iowa, Julie Alvarez Ribardi (Jason) of Morgan City LA, and Melissa Metros of Brundidge, AL. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, Allen and Dee Dee Barry, Kristi and Patrick Jackson, Justin Walton, Jami and Jesse Borders, Jack Bliss, Jennifer Lendin, Brandon Metros, Tiffany Boykin, Lacy Metros, Kaitlin Boykin, Faith Graham, Caylee Campbell, Justin Ribardi, Olivia Lee, Jesse Ribardi; and eight great grandchildren, Tanner Davis, Tacoda Walton, Kelsey Gray, Johnathan Barry, Graci-Anne Barry, Ronin Jackson, Sofi Barry, Kyler Walton and Ethan Bliss.
