Cecil "Butch" Hugh McMickle

Mr. Cecil “Butch” Hugh McMickle, 81, of Buena Vista passed away peacefully on December 31, 2022 at Magnolia Manor of Marion County.  Graveside services will be held at Buena Vista Cemetery on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 3:00PM with Rev. Joy Wilson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Powell, Paul Davis, Rocky Wade, Bobby McCorkle, Al Sellers, Tommy Chapman, Curt Welch, and Carroll Collins.  Friends and family can visit with Mr. McMickle on Monday at Way-Watson Funeral Home from 9:00AM-1:00 PM, but the family will not be present.  They will greet friends and family following the graveside service.

Mr. McMickle was born December 13, 1941 in Tazewell, GA to Herbert Ed and Mary Blythe McMickle.  A lifelong resident of Marion County, Mr. McMickle was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church of Buena Vista, but had most recently attended Tazewell Methodist Church prior to his declining health.  He was retired from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service with 40 years of service.  Upon retirement he served on the Marion County Board of Tax Assessors as member and chairman for five years then would go on to be elected to the Marion County Board of Commissioners for eight years. He was also a member of the Buena Vista Lion’s Club.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Christopher Johnson.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 53 years, Carlene Lane McMickle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Robert Williams and Melissa and Chris Johnson; granddaughters, Gracie Williams, Emma Williams, Sophie Williams, Sarah Ruth Johnson, Susanna Johnson, Jessica Sims, and Clarann Kirkland.
