Charles Arthur Kirby

Charles Arthur Kirby, 80, of Ellaville passed away on March 26, 2023 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Ellaville Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Orr and Rev. CJ Yarbrough officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Poole, Patrick Harris, Keyton Harbuck, Matthew McAllister, Joshua McAllister, and Neil Hagerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Hagerson, Mike Pollock, Randy Jones, Sammy Dale Wooten, and Sammy Lee.  Burial will follow in Ellaville City Cemetery.  The family will greet friends at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Mr. Kirby was born March 1, 1943 in Hartselle, AL to Colonel Nute and MeCellar Clemons Kirby.  He was a foreman at Champion Home Builders for thirty years. Mr. Kirby was a member of Ellaville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his family, especially anything involving his great-grandsons. His favorite hobbies included trapping with his best friend, Bill Forrest, and great-grandson, Keyton, growing the prettiest garden, and raising the best chickens. Mr. Kirby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Kirby, Buddy Kirby, and Doyle Wayne Kirby; three sisters, Rachel Elliot, Shirley Hornbuckle, and Joyce Cowart; and three step-children, Laura Cook, Johnny Murray, and Mike Theus.

Survivors include his wife, Carlynn DeVane Kirby of Ellaville; two brothers, Bob Kirby (Sharon) of Hartselle, AL, Harvey Kirby (Melody) of Hartselle, AL; his son, Terry Kirby (Gina) of Ellaville, GA; two daughters, Tina Anderson (Tony) of Summerfield, FL and Lora McAllister (Randy) of Cleveland, GA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Maelyn Poole (Matt), Matthew McAllister, Morgan Harris (Patrick), Josh McAllister; great-grandchildren, Keyton, Pate, and Knolyn Poole; and a number of step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
