ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mrs. Reba Charline C. Hill, age 84, of Ellaville, GA died Friday evening, May 6, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Ellaville United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Rev. Robert Poston and Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate.
Mrs. Hill was born December 7, 1926 in Point, TX, the daughter of Charlie Cowan Callaway and Nana Mae Hughes Callaway. She grew up on a ranch and graduated from Point Texas High School. She met Capt. Byron Hill when she was working in Tyler, Texas. Hill was stationed at Fannin Army Base, which operated from 1943 until 1946 in Tyler. They married on March 31, 1946. The wedding took place in the back yard garden of Hill's parents, Clyde and Dorothy, on North Broad Street in Ellaville. The couple lived in Schley County where Mr. Hill engaged in ranching and farming and raised champion quarter horses and Herford cattle. Mrs. Hill was a member of Ellaville United Methodist Church where she was very active in United Methodist Youth Fellowship and served as a counselor in UMYF. She was a member of Rainbow Garden Club for many years and enjoyed playing bridge.
Charline Callaway Hill will always be remembered in her community as being the charming hostess of a lovely home and a perfect "Southern Lady". She was known for her gracious hospitality and her devotion to her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Hill Austin of Americus, GA, Cheney Hill Reinhart of Americus, GA; one son, Robert Byron "Rob" Hill, Jr. of Ellaville; one son in law, Steve Austin of Ellaville; and three grandchildren, Alison Austin, Stephen Austin, and John Byron Reinhart. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bryon Hill, a son, Clyde Callaway Hill and a her sister Virginia Callaway Quales.
Active pallbearers will include John Gill, Ray Wurtz, Michael Wurtz, Ralph Iorio, Neil Snyder, and Jim Sellars.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville , GA. Memorials may be made to Ellaville United Methodist Church P.O. Box 74, Ellaville GA 31806 or to Phoebe Sumter Hospice 1048 East Forsyth Street Americus , GA 31709 .
