Mrs. Dedra Sue Gilley, 73, of Ellaville passed away on May 25, 2021 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Ellaville Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service in Ellaville City Cemetery. The service will also include a celebration of life for her husband, Robert “Bob” Gilley who preceded her in death on January 28, 2021. Due to Covid-19 his service had been postponed. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 6:00-8:00PM. Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Tomey, Bill Jackson, Robbie Brown, Ken McKinney, Bruce Manucy and Jimmy Byrd.
Mrs. Gilley was born in Talbot County, GA on December 24, 1947 to the late Robert and Luverne Phillips. She was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church where she participated in the Sunshine II Sunday School class and the JOY Club. She also was a member of the Rainbow Garden Club. Mrs. Gilley loved flowers, gardening and enjoyed fishing. She also had a passion for cooking and collected cookbooks. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gilley was preceded in death by two brothers, Averette Phillips and Billy Wayne Phillips; and brother in law, Ronnie Heath.
Survivors include son, Jamey Raybon of Ellaville; grandson, John Raybon of Ellaville; two brothers, Benny Phillips and wife Alice of Covington, GA, Earl Phillips and wife Barbara of Powder Springs, GA; sister, Frances Heath of Ellaville; sisters-in-law, Brenda Phillips of Ellaville, Marquerite Potter of Phil Campbell, AL and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ellaville Baptist Church, P. O. Box 325, Ellaville, GA 31806 or Phoebe Sumter Hospice, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709.
