Mr. John Douglas Usry, Sr., age 90, of Ellaville, GA died Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2020 at Ellaville City Cemetery with Rev. Joel Smith officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Ellaville Baptist Church. A visitation will be held at Way-Watson Funeral Home one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Due to Covid-19, face coverings are encouraged and please practice social distancing.
Mr. Usry was born in Macon County on July 6, 1930 the son of Joshua Franklin Usry and Alma Willis Usry. He had been manager/owner of County Gas Company. He had served in the US Army. Mr. Usry enjoyed fixing things and could fix most anything. He loved to read and study the Bible. He was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Usry also was a member of the Shriners. He loved to spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Usry was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Leigh Usry and five brothers and one sister.
Mr. Usry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Pritchard Usry of Ellaville, two sons, John D. “Johnny” Usry, Jr. of Ellaville, Rodney Usry (Amy) of Ellaville; one daughter, Lori Usry Hallock (Blair) of St. Simons Island, GA; one brother, Jimmy Usry (Judy), of VA; two sisters, Joan Coker of Gray, GA and Elizabeth Reid (Rainey) of Ochlocknee, GA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joshua Hallock, Jeremy Hallock, Jacob Hallock, Hannah Singleton, Brett Usry, and Zachery Usry; great grandchildren, Myles Singleton, Chandler Singleton, and Joesie Willyard; and several nieces and nephews.
