Frances Smith Wells Hicks, 94, of Buena Vista, GA, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at Magnolia Manor of Marion County.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Tazewell United Methodist Church with Reverend John Homer, Reverend David Chapman and Reverend Ellison Whitt officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Tazewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8PM.
Mrs. Hicks was born April 30, 1917, in Tazewell, GA, to Jesse Walter, Sr. and Julia Mae Hogg Smith. A lifelong resident of Marion County, she taught Sunday school until age 90 at Tazewell United Methodist Church where she was the oldest member, having been involved there for 75 years. She was a farmer, a homemaker, and a seamstress and had a love for flowers. She loved her community and called them her adopted family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, James Walter Wells and Wilson B. Hicks, by her son, James Williams Wells, Sr., by four sisters, Hettie Ruth Martin, Clyde Cheek, Helen Welch, and Martha O'Hearn, and by four brothers, William Smith, Jesse Smith, Johnny Smith, and Waymon Smith.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Rudy Killingsworth of Buena Vista, by a step-daughter, Catherine Rowell; by 11 grandchildren, Mary Frances and Fred Rockenhaus, Jim Wells, Jr., Frank and Karen Killingsworth, Laura and Kevin Keepfer, Julie and Mark Vonderharr, and Jason and Talley Rowell, Vance and Carol Sue Streeter, Linda and Smitty Eason, Keith and Robin Streeter, Tommy Jackson, and Bill and Jennifer Jackson. 22 Great-Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.
