Mr. Gary Loyce “Freight Train” McLendon, 61, passed away on October 12, 2021 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Poole, Rev. Mark Kinservik, and Mr. Sammy Lee officiating. The family will greet friends before the service at the cemetery beginning at 10:00 AM.

Mr. McLendon was born March 18, 1960 in Americus, GA to the late Alvin Loyce and Betty Barry McLendon. He was a 1978 graduate of Southland Academy, where he earned his nickname “Freight Train.” He was known for supporting the UGA Bulldogs, NASCAR, and his love of Westerns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley McLendon Poole, and a niece Carrie M. Poole.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Mark Poole; an aunt, Eva Barry, two uncles, Charles Barry (Joyce) and Benny Barry (Connie), a nephew, Nigel N. Poole (Lezlie), a niece, Brittney P. Giles, four great nephews; special cousins that provided care for him, Mike Barry & Alan Barry; and a host of other friends that he called family.

Way-Watson Funeral Home of Ellaville, GA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
