He was born July 10, 1922, in Marion County, GA, to William E. Duke and Florence Brooks Duke. Mr. Duke served in WWII and was on his ship headed to Japan when "they dropped the bomb" which ended the war.  While serving his country, he earned "American Service Medal", "Good Conduct Medal", "AR 600-68 World War II Victory Medal", "European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal" and "Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal".  After his stint in the Army, he made long-distance hauling his career for many years. Upon his retirement, he continued driving by delivering automotive parts for Bill Heard Chevrolet and Jay Auto, both of Columbus GA, and by picking up and delivering automobiles for Red Dot Motors of Phenix City, AL. He was always on the go...you just couldn't make him "sit still". He was an active member with the Moose Lodge and American Legion, both of Phenix City, AL. Other than his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Lillian Hennis Duke; brother Burrell Taylor (BT) Duke; sister Louise Duke Cook; sister-in-law Louise Wells Duke and his much beloved son-in-law, Gary Taunton.

He is survived by his son, Glynn Brooks Duke, Jr.; daughter Joyce Duke Taunton, both of Columbus GA, and daughter Alice Duke Smith and son-in-law Don Smith of Byron GA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His passing has left and will continue to leave a great void in all of our lives and hearts.

Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia, was in charge of these arrangements.
