Gordon Battle

ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. George Gordon Battle, age 70, of Ellaville, GA died Monday, June 18, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Ellaville Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Dr. Ben Foxworth and Rev. Terry Rice will officiate.

Mr. Battle was born February 6, 1942 in Charlottesville, VA, the son of Nora Lloyd Battle and George Gordon Battle. He was retired Assistant Chief from the Americus Fire Department after 30 years of service. He had a small engine repair business, served on the Schley County Board of Education for 12 years and was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church. Mr. Battle was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to ride motorcycles and especially loved being papa to his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Battle, two daughters, Paulette Salmon and husband Gray of Pensacola, FL, Christy Beck and husband Stephen of Pelham, GA; three sons, Paul Battle and wife Glenna of Ellaville, GA, Johnnie Battle and wife Teresa of Pace, FL, Michael Battle and wife Angie of Perry, GA. Nine grandchildren, Jarod Espy, Jonathan Espy and wife Leslie, Jeffrey Crane and wife Sarah, Tiffany Battle, Jonathan Battle, Jeremy Battle, Joshua Beck, Bridget Beck and David Battle also survive. In addition to his parents, Mr. Battle was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Charlie Battle.

The Americus Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ellaville Baptist Church Youth Fund, P.O. Box 325, Ellaville, GA 31806.
