Gracie Mae Phillips Carden

Mrs. Gracie Mae Phillips Carden, 86, of Buena Vista passed away on November 22, 2023 at Taylor County Health and Rehab in Butler, GA.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM in Brown Springs Church of God Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will be Raymond Phillips, Carlton Phillips, Elton Wadsworth, Tracy Watson, Jessie Anthony, and Samuel Teate. The family will greet friends at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Buena Vista on Friday afternoon from 3:00 – 6:00 PM.

Mrs. Carden was born March 24, 1937 in Marion County, GA to Alver J., Sr. and Lizzie Applewhite Phillips.  Mrs. Carden was a kind, caring person and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and cooking with her sister, Bessie.  She enjoyed attending gospel singings, sewing, planting flowers and gardening.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer Carden, Jr., a son, Hugh “Bug” Carden; three sisters, Dorothy Wadsworth, Vera Currington, and Bessie Anthony; and five brothers, Alver J. Phillips, Jr., Hubert Phillips, Leonard Phillips, Henry Phillips, and Little Bobby Phillips.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Schimek of Buena Vista, GA; three grandchildren, Timothy Schimek, Brandon Schimek and Christopher Carden; and several nieces and nephews.
