Mr. Henry Wesley Chavers, Sr., 82, of Americus, GA passed away on November 22, 2022 at Pheobe-Putney Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 3:00 PM in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends prior to the service in the cemetery.
Mr. Chavers was born June 2, 1940 in Sumter County, GA to Oscar and Ruby Lee Montgomery Chavers. He was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church and a true witness for the Lord. Mr. Chavers showed his compassion and love for people daily through his work. He worked as a mobile mechanic and could fix anything with a motor, especially farm equipment. Mr. Chavers enjoyed his work and being able to help others. He would often barter his services for other trades. When he wasn’t working, he loved spending time with his family and their activities, including horseback riding, hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the M.B. Council #13 Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former spouse, Loretta Erwin Chavers.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Tidd Chavers of Americus; four children, Karen Smith and her husband, Kevin of Evansville, IN, Penny Statham and her husband, Jeff of Tifton, GA, Wesley Chavers, Jr. of Americus, GA, and Bobbie Jo Reynolds and her husband, David of Baconton, GA; three step-children, Connie O’Hearn and her husband, Randy of Americus, GA, Jennifer Griggs and her husband, Terry of Ochlocknee, GA, and Dawn Godwin and her husband, Earl of Ellaville, GA; a brother, Lamar Chavers; thirteen grandchildren, Katie Reuscher (Joshua), Andrew Smith, Devon Smith (Lauren), Jonathan Statham, Miranda Foster (Dawson), Holly Hodges, Maggie Standridge, Abby Standridge, Grace Reynolds, Brandie Pennington, Wesley Pennington, and Lynton and Landon Godwin; thirteen great-grandchildren, Elijah, Preston, Adleigh, Duncan, Ryker, Zaleigh, Ariana, Genavieve, Oliver, Juniper, Eli, Hannah and Noah; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to Ellaville Baptist Church, PO Box 325, Ellaville, GA 31806.
