Hilda Brown

Mrs. Hilda Mackey Brown, 84, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away on Thursday, April 08, 2021, at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Tazewell United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Harris, Rev. Joy Wilson, and Joey Wells officiating. Burial will follow the service at Tazewell Cemetery.   Visitation will be held at Tazewell United Methodist Church one hour prior to the service time. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronny Golden, Bobby Bryan, Joey Wells, Jerry Nelson, Justin Wells, and Doyle Harris. Due to Covid-19, face coverings are strongly encouraged and please practice social distancing.

Mrs. Brown was born in Marion County, GA, on November 16, 1936, to Linton C. and Marie McElmurray Mackey.  Methodist by faith, she was a devoted member of Tazewell United Methodist Church.  She was very active in the UMW and the “Pink Ladies” of the Marion Nursing Home Auxiliary. She ran the first convenience store in Marion County and also worked at Publix. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Ernest Russell and Richard Brown, and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Sylvia Russell of Tazewell, GA, and William and Sharon Russell of Shelbyville, TN; by a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Guy Hall of Buena Vista, GA; by a sister, Susan Nissley (Bill) of Gordon, GA; by seven grandchildren, Jared Shepler (Carol), Shannon Shepler, Jeremy Russell, Kali Lowthorpe (Justin), Caleb Hall, Derek Russell, and Dalton Russell; by six great-grandchildren, and by her nephews, Steve Lumsden (Cathy) of Corbin, KY, Bryan Lumsden (Lisa) of St. Albans, VT, and Robert Lumsden (Sarah) of Olie, NC.

Memorials may be made to Magnolia Manor of Marion County Auxiliary and Tazewell United Methodist Church Quilters.
