 AMERICUS, GA --- Mrs. Jacquelyn Cook, age 80, of Desoto, GA died early Saturday morning, September 28, 2013 at Perfect Care Assisted Living in Americus, GA.  Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, September 30 at Desoto Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Desoto City Cemetery.   Bro. Troy Fripp and Bro. Chet Ragsdale will officiate.  Mrs. Cook will lie in state at the church on Monday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

 

Mrs. Cook was born March 14, 1933 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Albert Fred Burton and Ethel Lucile Barrow Burton.  Mrs. Cook was the wife of the late John Newton Cook who passed away on October 13, 2003. 

 

Mrs. Cook graduated from Union High School in Leslie and attended Wesleyan College in Macon.  She was an author of Christian historical novels, having written 13 titles with 21 editions.  During most of her working life, she worked for Zondervan, Guideposts Books, Barbour, and Bellebooks publishers. Mrs. Cook was a member of the UDC, the National League of American Pen Women, Romance Writers of America, the Faith, Hope, and Love Writers, and Georgia Romance Writers.  Mrs. Cook was a member of Desoto Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Nicholson of Tallahassee, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Lynne Cook of Desoto, GA; two granddaughters, Samantha McFarland and husband, Doug of Athens, GA and Jessica Watson and husband, Eric of Desoto, GA; two grandsons, Matthew Nicholson and his wife, Allison of Arlington, VA and Michael Nicholson of New York, NY; a great-grandson, John Thomas McFarland (Mac); a great-granddaughter, Margaret Burton McFarland (Maggie); a sister-in-law, Betty Cook of FL.

 

Members of the Bub Eldridge Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers and active pallbearers will include Matthew Nicholson, Michael Nicholson, Doug McFarland, Eric Watson, Jeff Chadwick and Jonah Chadwick.
