Mr. James Andrew Baker, 75, of Cusseta, GA, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, in Cusseta, GA. A graveside funeral will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at Harmony Cemetery in Cusseta, GA. Friends are welcome to attend the service but must follow social distancing guidelines.
Mr. Baker was born in Tremont, MS, on November 13, 1944, to Lois Andy and Sallie Adleon Canup Baker. He grew up in Cusseta, GA, and attended Cusseta High School. After moving around with his family while his father was in the military, he returned to Cusseta over 30 years ago. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he was a machine operator and worked on the tracks. Mr. Baker loved gardening and fishing as well as sitting outside and listening to music, especially Alan Jackson. He was an expert whittler and made canes and trucks for the grandchildren as a hobby. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Elaine Baker and his father and mother-in-law, Joe E. and Mattie Lou Crockett.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Vinyard Baker of Cusseta, GA; by five daughters, Tami and Jerald Watson, Tonia and Tim Mullins, Martha and Robert McKinley, Michelle and Robbie Quarles, and Andrea and Shane Clayton; 16 grandchildren, Christin, Justin, Wesley, Cody, Avery, Tyler, Brandon, Hannah, Trevor, Georgia, Mattie, Logan, Lane, Shania, Kaden, and Dusty; 12 great-grandchildren; and his special caregiver, Miss Nicie Baker. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.
Way-Watson Funeral Home, 1052 Dr. Deryl Hart Road, Buena Vista, Georgia has been entrusted with these arrangements.
