Jerry Lee Horne, Sr.

Mr. Jerry Lee Horne, Sr., 80, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. David Chapman officiating. Friends are welcome to attend the service but must follow social distancing guidelines.

Mr. Horne was born December 3, 1939, in Phenix City, AL, to William Clarence and Susie Bell White Horne. He served honorably in the United States Air Force and was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Horne retired from Pratt & Whitney as a Fire Prevention Specialist and also retired from the Phenix City Fire Department after serving 22 years. A Mason, he was a member of Marion Lodge #14 as well as Wilson William Lodge #351. He was a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy and trained Marion County’s Volunteer Fire Departments. Mr. Horne loved guns, going to gun shows and hunting and shooting. He taught the women’s firearms course in Marion County. Mr. Horne loved children. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Ricky Horne and Buster Horne.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Ann Pope Horne of Buena Vista, GA; a son, Jerry Lee Horne, Jr. (Debbie) of Sutherland, VA; a daughter, Tina Johnson (Ken) of Traveler’s Rest, SC; two step-sons, Keith Miller of Buena Vista, GA, and Alan Miller (Sharon) of Ellaville, GA; eight grandchildren, Teresa Broach, Jerry Lee Horne, III (Heather), Josh Horne, Jared Horne, Jeremy Hatcher (Carissa). Kendra Sims, Jilliann Williams (Dusty), Andy Miller (Alex); and seven great-grandchildren, Ryley Sims, Avery Sims, Ella Horne, Garrison Horne, Shane Hatcher, Ellie Williams, and Karter Patrick. A special niece, great niece and great nephew, Susan Burt, Nevaeh Green and Louie Valentin as well as several other nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
