Joe Talmadge McCorkle

Mr. Joe Talmadge McCorkle, 78, of Buena Vista, GA, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 22, 2014, in the Chapel of Watson-Tante Funeral Home with Elder Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Deland Memorial Gardens in Deland, FL.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 21, 2014, from 6-8PM.

Mr. McCorkle was born June 6, 1935, in Buena Vista, GA, to Riner Paul and Elizabeth Cook McCorkle. Baptist by faith, he was a member of Deleon First Baptist Church. Presently, he was attending Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church.  He served in the United States Army. He retired in 1987, from Western Electric where he had been employed as a telephone installer. He was a pine tree farmer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joe Alan McCorkle and by a brother, Jesse Riner McCorkle.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Robert Young of Deland, FL, and Wendy D. McCorkle and Dale Woten of Deltona, FL; by two brothers, C. R. McCorkle and Bobby McCorkle; and four sisters, Maryann Hudson, Elizabeth Lehman, Rena DiFilippo, and Louise Pisari. Five grandchildren, Hollie and Bryant Dunivan, Stephanie Smith, Kegan and Amy McCorkle, Hope McCorkle-Casey, and Brady McCorkle, and one great-grandchild, Kayden McCorkle also survive.

Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia, is in charge of these arrangements.
