ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. John Oscar Carpenter, age 95, of 120 N Wellness Dr., Americus died early Saturday morning October 3, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11:00 graveside in the Ellaville Cemetery. Rev Joy Wilson and Pastor Jim Veitch will officiate.
Mr. Carpenter was born December 28, 1913 in Rupert, GA to the parents of Jessie Belle Rodgers Carpenter and John Robert Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was retired from the Timber industry and was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife Evelyn Tarrence Carpenter, three daughters, Mrs. Helen Beckwith, Mrs. Mary Jane Arnold (Tommy) of Ellaville, and Mrs. Betty Jean Bryan (Bob) of Americus, two sons, Larry Carpenter (Jackie) and James Carpenter (Tammy) of Ellaville, one step-daughter, Mrs. Marie Bell (Alf) of Americus, one step-son, Hugh Hurst (June) of Ellaville, one brother, J.C. Carpenter (Ada) of Kathleen, GA and one Sister Wyolene Jinks of Hayneville, GA. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Edna Hobbs Carpenter.
Pallbearers will include Danny Beckwith, Mike Beckwith, Walter Clawson, Greg Arnold, Brian Arnold, Todd Carpenter, John Bell, Chad Bell, Sandy Bell, Jason Veitch and Joe Hurst. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home. Family will be receiving friends and family at the home of Mrs. Betty Jean Bryan, 543 Lakewood Ave. Americus.
