Johnson Henson

BUENA VISTA, GA --- George Johnson Henson, 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.  Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Buena Vista United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Akin officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 18, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Mr. Henson was born June 17, 1924, in Benton, TN, to the late Waymon Eugene and Myrtle Harbison Henson.  A member and former trustee of the Buena Vista United Methodist Church, he was a World War II veteran and was stationed in India and Burma for 3 years. He was the owner and operator of his sawmill operation for 20 years. He then went on to be the Administrator of Marion Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home as well as a longtime chairman of Marion County Draft Board and the Administrator of the Nursing Home in Cochran, GA, for 10 years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Goodroe Henson of Buena Vista; two daughters, Dianne Murray and her husband, Edward Gray Murray of Birmingham, AL, and Lane McGarrah and her husband, W. Scott McGarrah, III, of Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Buena Vista United Methodist Church, PO Box 449, Buena Vista, GA 31803 or the Buena Vista Cemetery Fund, 137 Harold Harris Rd., Buena Vista, GA 31803.
