Mrs. Joyce Wilson Spann, 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at The Oaks in Columbus, GA. A private family funeral service will be held with Rev. Chris Hess officiating.
Mrs. Spann was born in Preston, GA, on March 25, 1936, to Elliott and Julia Estes Cosby Wilson. She was a devoted member of Buena Vista First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Spann worked for the Mead Corporation as a secretary and then as the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Spann Auto Parts. She was a talented gardener, seamstress, cook and decorator and was known for her love of Christmas and writing poetry. Her senior class voted her “Most Likely to Succeed” and “Most Intellectual.” In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Spann and three brothers, Billy Dean Wilson, James Arthur Wilson and Herbert Elliot Wilson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Chris Spann and Debra Anthony Spann of Buena Vista, GA; by two daughters and a son-in-law, Rhoda Spann Peacock and Martin Peacock of Americus, GA, and Sandi Spann of Atlanta, GA; by a sister, Clarice Wilson Crawford and husband Jimmy Crawford; by her grandchildren, Chip and Penny Spann and Chad and Tamara Spann; and by five great-grandchildren, Gabe Spann, Charleigh Spann, Ferryn Spann, KJ Spann, and Beckett Spann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice or the Buena Vista Cemetery c/o Herbert Tante, 137 Harold Harris Road, Buena Vista, GA, 31803.
