Ellaville, GA — Mr. Larry Dean Long, Sr., age 68, of Ellaville died Monday, August 10, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held graveside in the Ellaville City Cemetery on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Earl Dunmon officiating. The family will greet friends at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
Pallbearers will be Dean Long, Greg Long, Clint Long, Jr., Scott Harry, Kyle Long, Nate Long and Josh Clemens.
Mr. Long was born January 17, 1947 in Webster County, GA, the son of the late Herman Rufus Long and Eva Mae Long. He worked with Georgia Pacific as a forester for 39 years. Mr. Long loved to grill, play golf, work in the yard, watch football and baseball. He still holds the record for the most points scored during his high school basketball career. But above all, Mr. Long considered his greatest accomplishment to be his children and he loved spending time with his family. Mr. Long was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Long of Ellaville; two sons, Dean Long of Ellaville, Greg Long and wife Colette of Americus; one daughter in law, Paige Long of Americus; and one brother, Wayne Long and wife Diane of Scottsboro, AL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Clint Long, Jr., Lucy Long, Lindsey Long, Jacob Long, Jarrett Long, Jessica Long, Samantha Long and Nate Long. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his son, Clint Long, Sr., sister, Myrtle Hudson and brother, Herman Long.
