Lavinia Harbuck Preston

Lavinia Harbuck Preston, 81, of Plains, GA, died Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Lillian G. Carter Nursing Center in Plains, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Tazewell Baptist Church with Reverend Peter Vermeulen and Reverend Dean Long officiating. Burial will follow the service at Tazewell Cemtery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 at the Church prior to the service.

Ms. Preston was born December 24, 1930, in Atlanta, GA, to William Henry and Pauline Icard Harbuck.  Baptist by faith, she was a member of Tazewell Baptist Church. She had been employed as a secretary and bookkeeper.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Wiley Harbuck.

She is survived by two sons, Ward and Shannon Preston of Raleigh, NC, and David and Cynthia Preston of Versailles, KY; five daughters, Decca and Dan Elswick of Crestwood, KY, Diane Preston of Frankfort, KY, Jan and William Key of Evans, GA, Ladelle and Jim Smith of Americus, GA, and Paula Preston of Macon, GA; by two brothers, Henry Harbuck of Monroe, LA, and Paul Harbuck of Marietta, GA; by two sisters, Ellen Duke of Shellman, GA, and Merrill Moody of Tazewell, GA; and by 10 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Hospice of Cordele, 708 East 16th Avenue, Cordele, GA 31015.

Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia, was in charge of these arrangements.
