Mary Ann Layfield

Mrs. Mary Ann Layfield, 93, of Ideal, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at County Line Baptist Church at 11:00AM with Rev. Mark Poole officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00AM until service time. Pallbearers will be Scotty Layfield, Steven Layfield, Nathan Arrington, Jeremy Albritton, Justin Stubbs, Travis Simmons, Lane Brady, Tanner Brady, and Hunter Layfield. Burial will follow in Lockwood Cemetery in Ideal, GA. 

Mrs. Layfield, lovingly known by all as “Granny,” was born August 5, 1930, in Macon County to Robert and Clemmie Lockwood Green. She was a devoted member of County Line Baptist Church and enjoyed being with her church family. Mrs. Layfield was a homemaker, a wonderful mother and grandmother, and cooked the best fried chicken and hamburgers in the state of Georgia. She was often found working on the farm with her late husband, Junior and loved getting her family involved shelling peas and during the day you could find her watching soap operas and gospel music shows.

Survivors include her two children, Melvin Layfield and Billy Layfield and his wife, Terri, all of Ideal, GA: six grandchildren, Scotty Layfield (Kelly) of Paducah, KY, Shelley Simmons (Travis) of Perry, GA, Lindsay Arrington (Nathan) of Ideal, GA, Steven Layfield (Ashley) of Macon, GA, Kimberly Albritton (Jeremy) of Ideal, GA and Elizabeth Stubbs (Justin) of Ideal, GA; eleven great-grandchildren, Tanner, Lane, Ryann, Hunter, Kaitlin, Hailyn, Will, Gray, Shep, Jaxton, Nora, Lane and Aubrey; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to County Line Baptist Church, Samaritan’s Purse, Shoe Box Program, 6716 GA Hwy 240E, Ellaville, GA 31806.
