Maurice J. Whitley, Sr.

Maurice James Whitley, Sr., age 88, of Mauk, Georgia, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Taylor County Health Care in Butler, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Mauk Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Stegall officiating. Music will be provided by Martha Whitley. Burial will follow at Mauk Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Watson-Tante Funeral Home.

Mr. Whitley was born January 20, 1924, in Mauk, Georgia, to W. O. Whitley and Lola Cassie Lockhart Whitley. Baptist by faith, he was a member of Mauk Baptist Church. He was employed at T&R Custom Builders as a cabinet maker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lucille Whitley, by two infants, by a daughter, Gail Howell, by a grandson, Maurice Jarrett, and by a great-granddaughter, Hope Jarrett.

He is survived by one son, Maurice James and Emma Whitley, Jr. of Mauk, GA; by two daughters, Ruthie and L. E. Williams of Mauk, GA, and Lola Garcia of Ellaville, GA; by a sister, Clarice Carlie; by several Grandchildren and by several Great-Grandchildren.

Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia, is in charge of these arrangements.
