Melanie Hembree

Mrs. Melanie Hembree, 83, of Americus, GA, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. Graveside services will be held at Tazewell Cemetery on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Chapman officiating.  The family will greet friends on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Buena Vista.

Mrs. Hembree was born August 23, 1938 in Tazewell, GA to the late Walter and Madee McMickle Sanders.  She had worked for many years in Dallas, TX as an accountant for Phillips Petroleum, Paramart, and Neiman Marcus. Mrs. Hembree then went on to retire from Wachovia Bank.  She also was a partner in a successful business with her great-nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothea Pennington and a brother, Sidney Sanders.

Mrs. Hembree is survived by her niece, Mary Icard and her husband David Kenneth Icard of Mauk, GA; and three great-nephews, Wayne A. Shaddinger, Corey Shaddinger, and Matt and Christi Icard.
