Mrs. Ozella Whitley Kersey Gaultney, 99, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Columbus Hospice Midtown in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Monday, May 4, 2015, in the Chapel of Watson-Tante Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Howard officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pine Level Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Greg Currington, Carl Albritton, Eddie Pope, Frank Gray, and Wayne Ledbetter. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-3PM before the service.
Mrs. Gaultney was born March 30, 1916, in Taylor County, GA, to James L. Whitley and Fannie Lee Cindy Hayes. She was a member of Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church. She had worked as a weaver at Manchester Mills. Mrs. Ozella loved singing gospel music and being around people. She made everyone feel welcome and she always had plenty to eat. She was a very happy person and enjoyed young people. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Harley Gaultney and Johnny Bob Kersey, and her son, Cecil Rudolph Kersey.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Hilda Kersey of Fortson, GA; by two grandchildren, Joy Lynn Kersey Fisher (Chad) of Normandy Park, WA, and Brett Daniel Kersey of Caleara, AL; two great-grandchildren, Clara Fisher and Sydney Fisher and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Columbus Hospice, Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church or a charity of one’s choice. Watson-Tante Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
