Lydia Penelope (Penny) Rogers, 83, of Buena Vista, Georgia, passed away after a brief illness of leukemia on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Penny was born in Oxford, Georgia on November 22, 1939. She spent her childhood in Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia. She was a member of Buena Vista United Methodist Church, was an active leader with Cub Scouts and Explorer Scouts, and served as a member of the Buena Vista City Council. Penny provided time and energy for the preservation of Pasaquan, an historic folk art complex In Marion County, Georgia. She was an avid reader and world traveler; her most precious time was spent having visits with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Elliott Herrington of Atlanta and one sister, Margaret Quay Smith. Penny is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dr. John Rogers; sister Lynne (Larry) Kuglar of Cedartown, Georgia; one son, Danny (Diane) Rogers of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; one daughter Cindy (Terry) Wawro of Seneca, South Carolina. Penny is survived by three granddaughters Amber (Joel) Friend, Aleta (Lior Rennert) Rogers, and Ashley Rogers. Penny is also survived by three great-grandchildren (Noah John, Avelyn and Aurora) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at the Buena Vista United Methodist Church sanctuary from 11-12pm on Saturday, April 1, 2023 with a memorial service to immediately follow. Officiating will be Reverend David Hibberts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buena Vista United Methodist Church, the New Community Church, Wexford, Pennsylvania, the First United Methodist Church of Cedartown, or Pasaquan via Columbus State University.
