ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Phillips Earl Law, Sr., age 71, of Dawson, GA died Friday, January 24, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 3:00 PM at County Line Baptist Church, with Rev. Jack Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Law was born October 27, 1942 in Sumter County. He was the son of Bennie Earl Law and Katherine Elizabeth Law. Mr. Law had served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After serving in the military he worked in law enforcement with the Americus Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol, as Chief Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, Director of Public Safety in Dawson, GA and worked with the Department of Corrections as an investigator. He graduated in 1978 from the FBI National Academy and was a member of the Peace Officers Association. Mr. Law also worked as a minister for 30 years and retired from Herod Baptist Church in Dawson, GA where he continued to attend and was a member.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Law; three sons and daughters in law, Phillip and Kelly Law of Blakely, GA, Wade and Diane Law of Americus, GA, Dr. Bret and Anna Law of Americus, GA. Six grandchildren, Haley Waller, Masey Waller, Katelyn Law, Wade Hampton Law, Caleb Law and Elizabeth Law also survive.
Pallbearers will include Sonny Reese, Joe Freeman, Thomas Haviland, Zach Bullock, Kyle Bullock, Chancey Kennedy, and Jay Cannon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at County Line Baptist Church.
