Sarah Eubanks Fussell, 75, of Preston, GA, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, after a short illness with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. James Pridgen, Rev. Robert Orr, and Rev. Jack Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Trent Fussell, Hank Harry, Lance Fussell, Keith Smith, Kevin Smith, Michael Jordan, and Ryan Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Nolin Fussell, Jake Everett, and Cristian Bain. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to service time beginning at 2:00PM.
Mrs. Fussell was born in Douglas, AL, to Escar (Red) Eubanks and Martha Lue Latham Eubanks. She attended Douglas Elementary and Douglas High where she graduated in 1965. After graduation, she moved to Americus, GA, where she met her future husband, Joe, at Fred Gentsch Manufacturing Co. They married on Christmas Eve. Sarah’s hobbies were spending time with family, camping, fishing, and reading. She taught Primary and Junior Sunday School and also organized a Senior Adult Group. She and a friend were successful in planning a Miss & Mr. Webster Co. Beauty Contest. The money raised was then awarded to a Webster county senior who might not otherwise be able to attend college. Sarah retired from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service after 14 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Joel, her brother Palman Eubanks, four step-sisters, Barbara and Shirley Smalley, Rhonda Anthony and Mary Hudgins, and a step-brother, James Johnston.
She leaves to cherish her memories the love of her life for 57 years, Joe Fussell, a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Crystal Fussell of Derby, KS; daughter-in-law, Cindy Fussell; a sister, Connie Willoughby of Boaz, AL; five grandchildren, Trent and Harley Fussell of Jacksonville, AL, Lance Fussell of Pulaski, VA, Nolin and Alyssa Fussell of Wichita, KS, Cristian and Sophia Bain of Oxford, KS; four great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Lakelyn Fussell and Millie and Maisie Ascher. Also surviving is a special friend who is more like a daughter, Angie Drew.
This is not goodbye. It is see you later.
Memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, Georgia Sheriffs Boys Ranch, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
