Shirley Vanzant Miller

Mrs. Shirley Vanzant Miller, 76, of Ellaville passed away at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.  Funeral services will be held at Hopewell United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Robert Orr, Rev. CJ Yarbrough, Rev. Andy Taunton and Rev. Michael Hammond officiating. The family will greet friends at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville on Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. All other times the family may be reached at 85 Old Buena Vista Rd., Ellaville, GA.

Mrs. Miller was born in Cordele, GA to John Plemons and Julie Hardin Vanzant on October 2, 1946.  She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church but had been attending Hopewell United Methodist Church. She worked as a CPA for many years before her retirement. Mrs. Miller loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed antiquing, going to yard sales, taking pictures of nature and in her earlier years, dancing. Mrs. Miller collected baby dolls and Barbie’s and loved tinkering with them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Bobbi Ann Smith and Tamara Denise Miller.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby James “Abe” Miller of Ellaville; two sons, Clint Couey (Leigh Batson) of Ellaville, GA and Dustin Miller (Sharon) of Murfreesboro, TN; three daughters, Tina Bennett (Dean) of Ellaville, GA, Daphne Sonshra Edwards (Phil) of Madison, AL, and Djuana Evelyn Butler (Keith) of Elkmont, AL; two brothers, John Hardin Vanzant (Faye) of Thomasville, GA and Ernest Walter Vanzant of Indiana; three sisters, Myrtle Kate Schultz (Bruce) of Norfolk, VA, Mary Inez Streetman (Boyette) of Ellaville, and Joane Hancock (Steve) of Crawfordsville, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Lexi Starling (Kurt), Cullen Couey, Kimi McKinney (Josh), Taylor Kelley (Andrew), Malena Butler, Savanah Edwards, Riley Edwards, Lilli Grace Miller, Scotty Sanders, Ashley Culp, Casey Smith, Ty Smith, and Shiann Smith; and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phoebe-Sumter Hospice, 126 Hwy 280 W., Americus, GA 31719.
