Mrs. Fontenot was born April 6, 1934 to Jules Reed and Armance Vidrine Reed. A native of Ville Platte, LA, Mrs. Fontenot was very proud of her Cajun heritage and held on to the Creole-French language and accent throughout her life. She enjoyed sharing those traditions by cooking Cajun meals for her friends and family. Among her favorite dishes were crawfish-etouffee, jambalaya, red beans & rice, and her famous chicken-sausage gumbo. Another favorite enjoyed by her grandchildren and son in-law was “turtle candy.” Mrs. Fontenot also enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets for her children and grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and loved sharing stories about them, especially talking about her husband, J.C. She resided at Pecan Village of Ellaville for a while and made new friends as she acquired a new hobby of growing and trading plants and flowers. A faithful church member of Sacred Heart Catholic and Shema Baptist, Mrs. Fontenot was a kind soul and enjoyed life to the fullest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Fontenot, a son, Dennis Wayne Fontenot; two sisters, Evelyn McGee and Lina Pritchett; and two brothers, Will Reed and Lee Burt Reed.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Fripp and her husband, Troy of Ellaville, GA and Paula Fontenot of Villa Platte, LA; three grandchildren, Nikki Watson (Chris) of Ellaville, GA, Geneva Lamberth (Mike) of Columbus, GA and Cami Coleman (Rusty) of Ellaville, GA; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
